psi.jpgThe Photographic Society of Iloilo (PSI) was established in September 1980 by a group of photo hobbyist bound together by a common interest.  Through the years, PSI’s path has evolved with the changing times. Old members take a break, new enthusiasts join-in, technologies changed from film to digital, techniques are improved through the use of computers.  But the very framework of the club has never changed, this is a group of people with different backgrounds but with one common interest, that is the love for photography.

The club has programmed activities for the year which includes PSI sponsored seminars & workshops for students, hobbyist and professionals; photo outings & excursions to provide the members with photo opportunities; contests to sharpen up and improve the photo techniques and skills of each member; and photo exhibits.

sir is there any schedule workshop for beginners like me?..weekly class if their is?

    Hi Jescille!
    Here’s my advice:
    1. Since you want to be a pro shooter in the future, buy at least a semi-pro DSLR (Like a Canon 60D or 7D, Nikon D7000). Choose between a Canon or Nikon only. They offer a wide variety of accessories, bodies & lenses are readily available anywhere and they have service centers in the Philippines (never mind that they have poor service here). You also need to invest in pro-grade lenses (and these are expensive).
    2. Enroll in a basic photography class. Join photo workshops & seminars. Joining a photo club will be least priority.
    3. What sort of income do you expect from photography? Weddings? Food? Travel? Volunteer your service to professionals (usually for free, x-deal) so you can learn the ins & outs.

    Good luck!

Hi there. I need an advice from a pro as to what camera (preferably dslr not click and shoot type) do I need to buy. I wanted to make a living of this hobby, starting with buying the right camera for a starter. Maybe from their, I can join clubs like this one.

  6. junsphoto Says:

    leo,
your clients proposed rate is very low considering its a 2-day event (requiring maybe at least 8-hour coverage/day) and there’s a lot of equipment requirements plus they require post-processing and behind the scene photos (they should consider photo equipment & computer depreciation). also add the professional fee of the photographer.

personally, i would be charging no less than P30,000.00 for the entire job considering that’s the minimum we charge for a wedding coverage (covers 10-12 hours in one day versus yours that covers a minimum of 8 hours for 2 days).

anyways, i’ll just leave your wanted ad here. there might be some beginners who are interested & wants to practice taking photos… good luck!

    cheers!

  9. anatole fernandez Says:

just want to know if you have any scheduled seminar on photogaphy for amatures? this 2011.

  10. junsphoto Says:

    Hi Dalene!
    Ok I’ll inform our group.
    Tnx for the invite :-)

  11. Dalene Balandra Says:

Well,we’re still inviting you to our Oct31 event anyway..It’ll start around 6pm..SM City will probably give way to photographers since we talked to them about the cameras.. Hope you can come.. I dunno if you know him, but Christian Lozanes will be there along with some of his other buddies…Hope we can see you there…^_^

  12. junsphoto Says:

    Hi Dalene…
Our group cant make it on Sept 25… We have a PSI dinner on that night so most of us will be busy with the preparation during the day.. :-(

  13. Dalene Balandra Says:

Hi,it’s me again. The unofficial group I was talking about earlier? It now became official..Our organization is called Anigumi Joukai..We have a group profile on Facebook if you want to see what we’re all about..We’re planning on a photo shoot to advertise our October 31 event on September 25..The location is still to be decided on but I’m wondering if your interested in checking us out..

  14. junsphoto Says:

    that’s a good idea.. ;-)

  15. Dalene Balandra Says:

Hi Jun..=) Yeah,we’re fully aware of the no taking photos thing…That’s why we decided to time our cosplaying with the costume contest for kids that goes on at the same day…=) hehe We all might take advantage of the eager parents and relatives taking pics of their little darlings and try to blend in…If we can..=0

  16. junsphoto Says:

    hi dalene..
i’ll ask our group. i’m personally interested in the photo opportunity so i’ll be there.
please take note that SM City doesn’t allow photographers (with DSLR or big cameras) taking pictures inside their mall specially for non-official events. usually its ok to take photos inside using a point & shoot or small camera (like it makes a difference using a DSLR or P&S.. you’re still taking pictures..) most probably we’ll be able to steal some shots :-)
anyways, its still 5 months away so give us a reminder nalang. thanks for the invite.

  17. Dalene Balandra Says:

Hi,I’m part of an unofficial group of cosplayers in iloilo..About 20+ of us are planning on cosplaying in SM City Iloilo on October 31,2010..It is not an official event but rather like a gathering of like-minded anime addicts who wish to dress up like their favorite characters..This practice is common in most Asian countries and even in America..Our goal is to encourage closet anime addicts to come out of their shells and promote cosplaying as an art form..In case your organization is interested in taking pictures of cosplayers,we would like to invite you to come and check us out..I hope you’d consider this..I have the greatest respect for your craft & I hope you can also help us in promoting our craft..God bless and more power to you guys..=)

  22. hi!

saw your exhibit at sm a while ago… how can i join this society?

  23. purpleworm Says:

Thank you for the reply sir jun!
I hope I could buy my slr camera soon. I’m still using my Olympus FE-360 digital camera. I’ll try and update my flickr.
I am Interested in attending your seminar if it push through. I really want to know about basic camera operations of an slr camera and its part. Newbie talaga eh! hehe..
Thanks again! I’ll keep on visiting your site. ^_^

  24. junsphoto Says:

    hi purpleworm!

photography is also my stress reliever & its always great to hear from a fellow photographer with the same passion I have.
i’ll try to answer each of your queries:

    1. PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF ILOILO. Our photo club is a close knit organization. It’s not how much one knows about photography or how talented one is when joining the club, it’s also how you fit in. Club memberships are through invitation only, no applications are accepted. I know our process is a bit harsh but its the same process that has kept the club going (& going strong) for 29 years. But once you’re in, it’s going to be a blast!

    2. CHOOSING A CAMERA. Get the entry level camera from Canon or Nikon. Dont you just love technology… entry level cameras are just oozing with features. The Nikon D40 is ok for starters/hobbyists and its very affordable. Yes, you can change lenses, use external flash. Not sure if they have a battery grip or cable release for this.
Remember, its the photographer who captures images. The equipment is just a tool.

    3. SEMINARS & WORKSHOP. I’m planning to conduct a 1-day photo workshop covering the basic camera operations to composition. I’ll let you know when this pushes through (hopefully) maybe by May 2009.

    Keep on shooting!

  25. purpleworm Says:

hello ulit! I want to ask your opinion about nikon D40, its w/in my budget eh. hehe..
Is the specs okay also can I add some accessories like change lens, flash, etc? Thanks! :)

  26. purpleworm Says:

    Hello kuya jun!
I really love photography a lot! My number one hobby and stress reliever. hehe..
I was wondering how to become a member?
As of now I still don’t have an slr camera, but I really wanted to buy one. Any suggestions for beginners like me?
Do you have upcoming events or seminars?
    Thanks! =)

  27. junsphoto Says:

  30. Maxinne Says:
