When I was a kid, I always wondered how I could join PSI. I remember seeing their interesting photos in several shops such as China Arts (if I am not mistaken).
I am happy to know that the Society is still going strong.

Larry,
Yes, we still have one member using film. He considers himself a purist…
A few years back, film still had a distinct advantage over digital when it comes to picture quality & detail (specially slide & large format film). However, not so today. With entry level DSLR having a minimum of 12mp, quality & detail has never been better.
Let me list some of the advantages of a DSLR:
1. Instant feedback in terms of composition & exposure
2. Changing of ISO anytime. During the film days, we had finish the roll or change it mid-roll to use a different ISO film.
3. Saves you money buying film everytime you have a shoot.
4. Saves you money on developing cost, more so if you shoot lots of images.
5. You can personally edit your photos the way you want before having it printed at the lab or your own printer.
6. You can shoot tons of images without having to worry of the cost of film you just burned up
Advantages of film:
Hhmmm… at the moment, no advantages at all.
At present, DSLR are fairly affordable. If you cant affort a brand new unit, try getting a pre-owned one. I read in a forum that a Canon EOS 350D with 18-55mm lens, battery grip, compact flash card & extra batteries is selling for P15k only. Now this is a fairly capable unit, even at 8mp only. A Canon EOS 400D with the same accessories is selling at P20k-P22k.
My advise, go DIGITAL.
Hope this helps…

hi lutz!
first, one doesnt apply for a membership but has to be invited into the club. so its important that you know someone from the inside. go through the members list if you know anyone and look for a sponsor/maninoy.
its a long process before one is accepted (blackball session, submit photos for evaluation, etc). being able to fit-in & gel with the members is the no.1 priority.
hope this helps…
